Shelter Cocktail Bar is pleased to welcome back Chef Chris Picek who will be popping up at Shelter’s kitchen for residency from October 8th to December 31st, serving delicious and tasty Spanish Tapas. Chris was formerly the head chef at Il Sogno in Calgary where he garnered critical acclaim from clients and local media alike, and most recently the Head Chef at Tapas Bodega in Canmore, where he helped redefine what a tapas restaurant can be. Prepare your tastebuds for the likes of braised chicken with fresh chanterelles, Chioggia beets with manchego and Honeycrisp apple, and a delicious clover honey parfait for something on the sweeter side, as well as a weekly rotating selection of dishes. Chef Chris Picek will be cooking Thursday/Friday/Saturday during these weeks.
Get ready to sample local creations this May long weekend from Garbanzo’s. This is a delicious vegan-based pop-up built for takeaway and the outdoors. Alec Fraser, formerly of Pigeonhole, and Bikini Restaurant, has whipped up a delectable combination of vegan dishes including crowd favourites like handmade falafel and spring herb hummus, as well as some new twists like the smokey baba bowl. Come grab a bite, a drink and a cocktail kit to go.
Nightmare on 1st Street is a Christmas-themed pop-up cocktail bar playing on Shelter’s own darker decor. Paying homage to one of the greatest Christmas films ever made, the Nightmare Before Christmas, Shelter is transforming itself into a ‘Christmasized’ version of itself for the month of December. With over the top holiday decor, we are excited to present a ’12 days of Christmas’ style selection of holiday cocktails in a reimagined festive setting.
Our holiday cocktails are all developed in-house by our talented staff. Nightmare on 1st Street will be available to the public from November 24th to December 30th.
Stop by from 4pm until late starting November 24th to see the transformation!
Party with a Purpose – Calgary Humane Society Fundraiser – August 16, 2019
Shelter has partnered up with the Calgary Humane Society (CHS) to bring awareness to the fantastic work the organization is doing taking care of animals in Calgary. CHS is proudly a “no-kill shelter” which means that at the Calgary Humane Society, every single healthy and adoptable animal is able to stay until they are adopted. This means one simple thing: They never say no, and they never turn an animal away. We recognize the incredible importance of an organization that provides this service, as well as the incredible people who help keep things running.
The CHS also provides a variety of other services including investigation into animal cruelty, emergency boarding services, animal training and more. The team at Shelter Cocktail Bar whole-heartedly supports the work the CHS does and is working alongside them to raise money to help them do even more.
Our fundraising goal for our inaugural year is $1,000 (and we hope to raise even more)! To get involved, just follow the donor links on this page. If you can’t give, but still want to support our cause, please share our page with your friends, family members, and coworkers. With more people aware of our cause, we’ll be one step closer to reaching our goal.
The team at Shelter would like to thank you in advance for your support!
