The world of spirits and mixology is complex and vast. Cocktail menus are full of unfamiliar and creative ingredients, old school and new school lingo, and constantly evolving flavours. But somehow, once your drink arrives at the table, all those ingredients work together harmoniously to develop a distinct taste and experience. While the art of making a proper cocktail may seem like a skill out of reach, with some practice and a little bit of knowledge, developing a delicious concoction isn’t too tough.
In this series of courses we are going to delve into the rich history of cocktails and the base spirits that comprise them. This class will include a comprehensive history of cocktail culture, from mixologies origins in the 1800s, back to the gin craze of 1695, through prohibition, and into the craft cocktail resurgence of the early 2000s. We will touch on how alcohol influenced the development of western society, and learn about the history and flavour profiles of spirits.
One of the most important aspects of learning about cocktailing is tasting different spirits and cocktails, so sprinkled throughout the course we will be tasting various classic and new classic cocktails. To conclude, we will explore different techniques to up your cocktail game, and learn about the tools and ingredients you will need to make great drinks at home. This class will impart all the knowledge and technique you will need to wow your friends with your at-home cocktails and fun facts about mixology.
